This is just a collection of adtech terms I’ve had to pick up after working in AdTech for a little bit.
Impression
An impression seems to be a single view or interaction with a given piece of advertising.
Impressions are used when calculating payment on a cost per mille basis.
CPM
Cost Per Mille: The cost to an advertiser for every 1000 (Mille) impressions a publisher gets on a specific ad.
Ad Slot
A place on a website that can be filled with an ad
Ad Space
The place for the ad hosted inside the ad slot
Inventory
Inventory of ad slots on a website
UAP
Univseral Ad Package: A specification of ad formats put out by the
IAB
Interactive Advertising Bureau
RTB
Real Time Bidding Sometimes a publisher might want to let supply sources bid on an ad slot in real time. Often this is done on the client browser when visiting the website, but sometimes it’s done using an intermediate exchange server.
RTB allows DSPs to connect directly to SSPs
